The history of Széchenyi Baths

From 1865 to 1875, Vilmos Zsigmondi created a hole right below the park with a depth of 975.36 meters and turned it into a place that provided abundant hot water for Széchenyi Baths

The bath went through many different names during the planning stages from the 1880s, the bath was called, respectively, Artézi fürdő and then was given the official name Széchenyi gyógyfürdő.

The history of Széchenyi Baths

It has a geographical area of five in the City Park area, and Győző Czigler designed it in the elegant Baroque style. Construction began on May 7, 1909, with designs by architect Eugene Schmitterer. Construction of the swimming pool cost approximately 3.9 million Austro-Hungarian crowns. The total area covered is 6,220 square meters (67,000 sq ft).

At that time, the Baths included private baths, separate sauna areas for men and women, and "public baths" for men and women. The complex was expanded in 1927 to its current size, with 3 outdoor pools and 15 indoor pools.
