Best Times To Visit Athens
When should we visit Athens? Like many countries in the mediterranean region such as Spain, Italy or Greece where weather is lovely, beautiful, warm and sunny all year round.
We can travel to Athens at any time of the year but the best time to visit here is between March and May or from September to November. Weather during these spring and fall months is agreeable and sunshine is pretty much a guarantee. Not to mention, crowds are thinner and hotel and airfare deals are easier to come by than in summer.
Athens Transport Information
- Subways in Athens run every four minutes during rush hour and every ten minutes on weekdays. They operate from 5:30 AM to midnight.
- Buses are very popular in Athens. They park at the airport and are always available for us to go to the center of Athens or even to anywhere in the region.
- It is too easy to move to some attractive destinations in Athens. We can use a tram. The tram network connects the center of Athens to the southern suburbs. The coaches are nice and modern. The only inconvenience is that the tram is very slow.
- Taxis here are quite cheap and convenient. There are so many on the streets of Athens with yellow decorations. The interesting thing about the Athenian taxis is the fact that one can be picked up by a taxi while there already is a passenger in it. Every passenger will be charged the fare shown on the meter.

Mount Lycabettus:
Standing 277 meters above sea level, Lycabettus Hill is the highest point of Athens. The view from the Lycabettus Hill is best enjoyed at sunset whilst waiting for the lights of the Acropolis, Temple of Olympian Zeus, Panathenaic stadium and Ancient to come on. We will also be reminded that Athens is surrounded by sea with a spectacular view across the Aegean.
Syntagma Square: is the most attractive destination in Athens. It has literally been the very heart of Athens ever since the city became the capital of the modern Greece state, and it is the perfect central location for sightseeing.
Temple of Olympian Zeus:
also known as the Olympieion, was built over several centuries starting in 174 BCE and only final completed by Roman Emperor Hadrian in 134 CE. Its usually tall columns and ambitious layout made the temple one of the largest ever built in the ancient world.
Ancient Agora: One of the most important sites of the Greek capital, is located on the northwest of Acropolis, between the neighborhoods of Thission and Monastiraki. A large area with ancient ruins and much greenery, the Ancient Agora was the center of Athens in antiquity, the place where political gatherings and juries would take place.
The Plaka is the oldest section of Athens. Most of the street has been closed to automobile traffic, though we should still keep a watchful eye for speeding motorcycles or delivery trucks. Plaka has a long history and has played an important part in Athenian life, with many famous people having walked along its street, from Pericles and Alexander the Great to Lord Elgin and Lord Byron, while many well-known Greek writers, actors and artists have lived here, like Giorgos Seferis, Kostis Palamas and Melina Merkouri to name a few.
