Every year, over 10 million people visit the Louvre, making it the most visited museum in the world.

The Louvre Museum, which is located inside the Louvre Palace, houses over 380,000 works of art (35,000 of which are on display now). The museum is split into 8 sections, each responsible for a different type of artifact -  Egyptian Antiquities; Greek, Etruscan, Roman Antiquities; Near Eastern Antiquities; Islamic Art; Decorative Arts; Sculpture; Paintings; Drawings and Prints.

The Louvre has been the official arbiter of artistic heritage since it opened in 1793, from ancient Egyptian relics dating back 4,000 years to contemporary works by Oriental artists.

Da Vinci's Mona Lisa, Liberty Leading the People by Eugène Delacroix, Michelangelo's The Dying Slave and the Rebellious Slave, Venus de Milo and Winged Victory of Samothrace from ancient Greece, Hammurabi’s Code from 1754 B.C., are only a few examples of what you can find at the museum.

When you look at these works of art, you're not just looking at paintings; you're viewing relics of the nation's history. Most people only go to the Louvre once in their life.

The operating hours are from 9am to 6pm, Mon through Sun, with last access at 5:30pm.

Louvre Museum is not open on every Tue, New Year’s Day (1 Jan), 1 May and Christmas Day (25 Dec).

Free entry for those who are under 18 and under 26 (EU citizens), but they must obtain a physical ticket at the venue due to COVID-19 requirements and standards. For verification of age, please show a valid ID at the museum's entrance.

If you're looking to take the metro, the Palais-Royal–Musée du Louvre station on Line 1 is closest to the museum.

The following buses stop at the Pyramid if you're traveling to the museum by bus: 21, 24, 27, 39, 48, 68, 69, 72 , 81 and 95.

The best time to visit the Louvre Museum is during early morning hours or around 3 pm in the afternoon. You may not have entire rooms to yourself, but it will be less crowded than peak times.

The Lion's gate is located on the east of the Pont Royal on Quai des Tuileries and we recommend using it to avoid long queues.
